The RoHS compliant* miniSAS supports data transmission rates of 6 of 10 Gbps in server and storage applications, doubling the capacity of first-generation SAS connectors.
The 3M brand miniSAS interconnect ensures signal integrity, protecting against data loss. It also significantly reduces the connector size for storage systems currently using SAS 4-lane. The 0.8 mm pitch board mount connector provides increased I/O density with greater channel capabilities and requires less space on printed circuit boards. The miniSAS system provides board designers with a variety of options, including three different tail lengths on the through-hole shields, kinked tails and SMT options. The connectors are offered in vertical and right-angle versions for internal board-mount uses and a right-angle design for external board-mount uses.

Murata SMD PIR Sensor
Murata has developed the surface-mounting pyroelectric infrared sensor. Until now, because there were no surface-mounting pyroelectric infrared sensors, there was a limited market for such sensors for human detection use. Now, thanks to the development of Murata’s technology and new pyroelectric ceramic materials, the realization of a lead-free, surface-mounting pyroelectric infrared sensor has become reality. It supports solder reflow and is capable of more accurate detection than traditional sensors. This enables expansion into a variety of markets, including consumer electronics, mobile phones, and game machines.
As the result of surface mounting, the volume of the sensors is now 30% that of the traditional products, and the height has also been reduced to approximately 60%. The result is a reduction in costs, as well as the possibility of application in thin-model devices. Murata has perfected a surface-mounting pyroelectric infrared sensor that is simple for people, the environment, as well as “cost”, for the sake of advancing eco-friendliness and energy savings in the future.

Vishay’s VJ HVArc Guard® Surface-Mount
Vishay released the industry’s first surface-mount X7R multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) designed to prevent surface arc over. The new devices provide maximum capacitance in high-voltage ratings and an increased capacitor voltage breakdown. The new VJ1206, VJ1210, VJ1808, and VJ1812 HVArc Guard® MLCCs feature a unique, patent-pending internal design structure that prevents surface arc-over at high voltages. This design allows for higher capacitances than standard high-voltage MLCCs, and facilitates the use of smaller case sizes in high-voltage products, allowing for device miniaturization and reducing component cost.
Optimized for applications including buck and boost dc-to-dc converters, voltage multipliers for flyback converters, and lighting ballast circuits, the new devices will be used in lighting systems and power supplies for medical, computer, motor control, construction and mining, and telecommunications applications..
